1847 (12 May) large part entire letter from San Fernando to "Messers. Taylor, Graham & Argus" at Port of Spain, bearing "Lady McLeod" (5c) blue with good to large margins nearly all round and neatly canceled with a pen cross "X"; address panel with a vertical fold professionally repaired internally and lacking side panels, otherwise attractive with the stamp in unusually fine condition with many of the known examples being torn or with other faults. Pemberton, Wilson & Co. handstamp on one flap and signed by L.F. Livingston, with 1982 Holcombe and 1992 Royal certificates (each commenting that the stamp has been lifted and replaced, the latter also commenting on the cover having been cleaned). A splendid sound and exceptionally fine example of the iconic Lady McLeod on cover, ex- Cox, Dibble, Mellor and Melat collections (also illustrated on page 10 of "The Private Ship Letter Stamps of the World" by Ringstrom and Tester). The steamship "Lady McLeod" plied between Port of Spain and San Fernando carrying passengers (Image)
