Aden: 1849 to 1932, selection of fifteen items, incl. 1849 large part wrapper to Bordeaux endorsed "per Gratitude" via Aden" with good strike of Boxed Paid mark in red, "8 Anna" added in ms., and showing fine Mauritius G.P.O. crowned datestamp and Maltese disinfection cachet, two good strikes of the scarce Mailbag intaglio seal in blue tying 1865 2a. orange (2) to piece from reverse of envelope with double arc "FE 28/1870" datestamp alongside, from its second period of use, "B" in square of bars on 1880 (Oct. 22) India 1a. stationery envelope and additionally tying 1/2a. blue, 1a. plum and 1a.6p. sepia to reverse of (Dec. 1) cover, 1916 stampless picture postcards to Kent with scarce first type straight line "PASSED BY CENSOR, ADEN" in violet and "BASE OFFICE ADEN/29 JUL 16/I.E.F." c.d.s, also 1917 and 1918, four stampless 'O.A.S.' covers from the same correspondence to Kent showing scalloped circular mark "PASSED/ No A 108" in violet, one unusually with double strike, 1932 (Jan. 26) extraordinary large O.H.M.S. envelope registered and insured (for £2) from Aden Camp to the Ministry of Health in London, bearing on reverse "SERVICE" overprint 1a. strips of four (3) and three to a total of 15a., with Aden Camp Reg. c.d.s's, showing registration and Insured labels (opened for display), etc. Ex Gary Brown. Aden: Early Incoming Mail, 1868 colourful entire from Mauritius to Cowasji Dinshaw bearing 1d., 4d. and 6d., slight perf. faults, cancelled "B53" barred ovals and additionally tied by handstruck "10" accountancy mark in red, with fine strike of scarce Aden Steamer Point "2 JU/68" arrival in red on reverse. Cowasji Dinshaw Adenwalla (1827-1900) was an important figure in the commercial development of Aden, In 1895 he had an entire floating dock shipped from Britain, known locally as "Dinshaw Pontoon". Although Zoroastrian by faith, and founder of Aden's Fire Temple, Dinshaw also financed the construction of a mosque for local Muslims. Also 1870 wrapper from India to Mauritius "via Bombay & Aden" showing fine, slightly pale strike of the short lived Steamer Point circular datestamp receiving mark "13 SE/70" in red on reverse, bearing 2a. yellow, 8a. rose pair cancelled "B/1" octagons in blue, additionally tied individually by straight line "Stamped", with Sept. 3 Calcutta Paid and Oct. 1 arrival backstamps. (serifed letters) on reverse, 1877 (Jan. 29) envelope to Edinburgh, "Via Brindisi", bearing 1a. brown pair and 4a. blue-green cancelled by very light Aden Camp (21mm) "B-22/I" duplex, the adhesives additionally tied for security purposes by two fine strikes of "ADJUTANT'S OFFICE/VITH/REGIMENT R.I." double oval cachet, with Aden c.d.s. and Feb. 10 arrival backstamps, 1880 envelope unusually to Lunga "Via Persian Gulf" with 4a. blue-green affixed as seal (torn on opening) overstruck by good to fine Aden Camp (21mm) "B-22/I" duplex, originating elsewhere with Sea Post Office F Feb. 25 c.d.s., 1880 (Oct. 8) India 11/2a. stationery card with fine strikes of "B" in square of bars in conjunction with Aden Camp c.d.s., sent by Lt. Col. Hill, "Commanding/Aden Brigade", to Devon and envelope (year unclear, slightly foreshortened) to India franked on reverse by 1a. brown and 2a. orange pairs, the cover originating elsewhere with Sea Post Office E July 14 c.d.s, and envelope to India with Aden Steamer Point Apr. 15 c.d.s.
