1921 (Feb 24) PPC to France (showing seated Aborigine), damaged in transit aboard SS Kalyan during a gale in the Mediterranean, the mail unloaded at Marseilles with 'ACCIDENT en MER/COURRIER INONDE' (accident at sea, flooded ship) Kalyan Type 5 cachet in blue applied (probably at Paris), Fremantle machine departure cancel on reverse, front and back of card have separated due to the water damage. We cannot recall seeing another item from Australia that was involved in this incident. [see Hoggarth & Gwynn at p.206 ] (Image1)
