1931 (19 Nov) First All-Australian Air Mail to UK (for USA) crash cover signed by C. Kingsford Smith on an American Consular Service envelope despatched by John W. Dye, newly appointed American Consul in Melbourne, to his son in Washington. Carried by air to England thence by sea to America. The original aircraft crashed in Malaya and although destroyed, the mail survived. Kingsford Smith immediately flew to Malaya and carried the salvaged mail through to England. Franking includes 6d Air optd 'OS'. No postal markings on reverse. (Image1)
