THE R100 CANADA TO UK FLIGHT, ETC.: 1930 (Aug) envs. (3) & cards (2) inc. 13 Aug 1930 decorated air mail env. flown on the return flight from St. Hubert, Montreal to Wooster, USA franked with a Canada 5c air mail stamp tied by a large "Montreal Canada/St Hubert" cds (& similar opposite) with special cachet & large blue "R100" hs on front, and on the back a large colourful "NATIONAL AIR RACES/TENTH ANNIVERSARY/CHICAGO AUG 23 SEPT 1 1930" sealing flap & tied by a Montreal slogan cancel with "WOOSTER OHIO" cds adjacent; a printed env. addressed to "Norristown, Pa./U.S.A." franked with a Canada 5c air mail stamp tied by a "MONTREAL, P.O./AM/AU 1/30/ST. HUBERT" cds with special cachet on front, and "NORRISTOWN" machine cancel on back; 1 Aug 1930 PPC of the R100 with Canadian 5c tied by violet oval "AERODROME - ST HUBERT - AIRPORT/AIR MAIL SERVICE/AUG 1 1930/POSTE AERIENNE"; a period PPC of the R-100; an redirected May 1930 env. from North Portal Station, Saskatchewan to G.B. endorsed "Via R-100" but not flown on the airship; plus a large folded map/chart showing the route taken by the R-100 between Canada and the UK with times at various locations. 1934 MAC ROBERTSON AIR RACE: Superb collection of covers & ephemera relating to the famous race from Mildenhall, Suffolk to Melbourne, Australia. Comprises signed covers flown in the race inc. 3 of the 100 carried by the eventual winners, Charles Scott & Tom Campbell-Black. Also a number of covers carried by the KLM entry "Uiver" and the American entry Roscoe Turner. In total the collection holds c.25 Race flown covers and a further c.20 covers flown on return flights, onward flights and the subsequent final flight of the "Uiver" (crashed in Syria 1935). Also, photographs of most entries, newspaper cuttings and a photocopy of the Royal Aero Club's Official Programme showing the signatures of all the participants (useful for comparisons).
