1876 cover to Darmstadt, Germany written by the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII.) with his crest on flap; addressed to Princess Louise of Hesse (Queen of Denmark and Edward's mother-in-law). Sent on Edward's return from his eight month trip to India. Franked by rare three colour combination of India 1a brown, 4a green and 8a carmine for 13a double rate (Brindisi routing) tied by '[ADEN]./MAR.20 - B-22' duplex (type KD8), black 'PD' handstamp below, 'SEA/POST OFFICE/E/19MAR' (Hydaspes) backstamp. Tear on face part-repaired but still of good appearance. A scarce royal cover bearing a scarce double rate franking. (Image1)
