£2 Black & Rose plus 5d Ram pair (£2/10/- = 7 times the trans-pacific rate of 6/10d) on 1941 (Dec 6) California Clipper cover from Sydney to England via New Zealand and USA. The attack on Pearl Harbour caused the plane to be diverted to Queensland where it continued back to USA via Africa. The plane did not land at Sydney to pick up mail and so this cover would have been sent on the Cameronian and Camilla on 9th Jan to England on the Horsehoe route via Durban, South Africa. One of only two examples of the £2 used on cover, Cat $27,500. One of the most important Kangaroo covers. Ex Nelson. (Image1)
