German Offices in China, Submarine Mail Service : 1917 (12 Jan.) envelope from Cannstatt addressed to Canton endorsed "Tauchbootbrief/nach Bremen" and bearing Germania 20pf., cancelled by c.d.s., showing "Bremen/T.B./D.O.R." (Deutsche Ozean Rederei) c.d.s. (16.1) with submarine motif, "Zurück/Wegen Einstellung des Tauchboot-/briefververkehrs zurück an Absender" h.s. in violet, "via San Francisco" h.s. in blue, and "x" censor's mark adjacent, with manuscript endorsement on reverse refunding the 2 marks paid for the aborted submarine mail service, addressee's name inked out.
