GERMANY - RUHLEBEN INTERNMENT CAMP HOLDING. Well over 100 items in this very specialised collection of Ruhleben 1915/1916, beginning 1/3d perf 10 3/4 issues including mint, used on piece and wing corner marginal, as well as unused postal stationery and postcard, this is followed by the Ruhleben literary society’s magazine wrapper ‘in Ruhleben Camp’ with provisional issue with first day surcharge (1-8-15) used, just 13 days after RXD came into existence. Next is the 1/2d on 1/3d overprints with a study of the different printing types, the same with the ‘due’ overprint issues, etc. The collection continues on with the same level of depth for the subsequent issues up to the 3d, including the 1d reply card and a very unusual cover featuring four different denominations, the 1/3d, 1/2d, 3/4d and 1d other denominations include 1/2d blue, 1/2d green 3/4d mauve and 1d red due overprint types, as well as ‘on service’ mint and again with the used. Much is well written up with information including important reference notes by the expert Dr Bachenheimer. The collection would be very difficult indeed to assemble again, an opportunity.

GERMANY PACKET-MAKER'S STOCK. Seven cigar boxes with an extraordinary range of material from peace time Germanias through to an impressive quantity of posthorn o/ps, as accumulated many decades ago with much of the inflation on piece in multiple format; noted German States, German Empire shields, Danzig, in old glassines by the hundreds yet probably the best and most valuable is the wholesale quantities by the 1000s - there are tens of thousands of stamps overall - of the 19th century and an abundance of inflation, the bundled section are all cotton clad, unopened bundleware that is hardly ever seen today. The Third Reich is also interesting including many 40pf purples and watermark varieties. Also much of the material in large format is very scarce today and great eBay material. So diverse and original is this fantastic lot with a huge catalog value; we recommend that you allow considerable viewing time preferably with a Michel, such is the potential here.

GERMANY - 2 FAMILY CORRESPONDENCES OF THE 1930s/40s. over 300 items of postal history housed in two large volumes, roughly evenly split between the two families with the Goldschmidt probably being the most interesting. This has not only covers from different parts of German occupied Europe including Alsace and interesting purple town strikes from Lorraine, there are also items from Bozen in the Alps, Trient, Pola in the Adriatic, Trieste, Lana, Oslo etc., there is also a good range of pre-WW2 including combinations of Germanias on cover, inflation, paired Austria/Third Reich for the Anschluss, through to the Third Reich official swastika types used in tandem with commems and Hindenburg definitives, to make their respective correct postal rates, also including a good range of perf-ins on cover etc. etc. By comparison, the Hergots correspondence is virtually all WW2 including feldpost and much correspondence from the front until it reaches an abrupt halt in February 1945, sufficient to say for obvious reasons. If you happen to be a linguist as well as a postal historian, these original correspondences that have been very recently brought to light will also have occasional content, making them interesting primary sources as well, full of information beyond their postal routes etc. An excellent project, especially considering that the Goldschmidt correspondence is likely to be from a family that converted from Judaism. There are many covers here that would sell between $25 and $50++ each on eBay, a much recommended viewing.
