Two-Volume Collection of German States from the Tar Heel Estate. Hundreds and hundreds of desirable mint and used stamps from the various German States, A-Z, housed in like-new luxury Lighthouse hingeless albums. Some items missing from the albums can be found in a white box of glassines and sales cards. Strong effort to present parallel mint and used examples of most issues, with many Michel-listed varieties and oddities. Appropriate expertizing often present. Dealer's stock of almost 1200 "102" size sales cards from the Liberty Stamp Shop Estate. The largest part of this lot is of Bavaria. Other states have strong material such as Baden, Hanover, Prussia, Thurn & Taxis and Wurttemberg. Some of the early issues have faults but most are sound. Saxony #9 and 2(2) tied cover having its original letter cancelled in Dresden on 24 X 1862. Mailed to Philadelphia. Comes with translation of German. American Civil War correspondence talking about raising funds for the Southern prisoners, running goods to Cuba to Southern States etc. Also has a summary of contents too. (see scan) Should be of high interest for a Civil War aficionado. (Image)
