Orange buff cover bearing 10¢ green, types II & III (32, 33), six comprising two vertical pairs (one stamp type III) arranged as a block, and single of each type, tied by multiple strikes of "Brunswick Me. Jun 18" cds, four additional strikes on reverse, red "N.York, Am. Pkt. 'Paid 14' Jun 25" credit exchange cds, carried by Havre Line Fulton from New York Jun. 25th to Southampton arriving Jul. 7th, partial red "Aachen, Franco 9/7" transit, arrival backstamp; small cover tears, right edge of cover refolded to show overlapping stamps (one creased), Fine and spectacular 10¢ franking for double the 30¢ Prussian Closed Mail rate.

Orange buff cover bearing 10¢ green, types II-III (32-33) horizontal pair and 10¢ green, type V (35), each cancelled by matching grid cancel, pair tied by "Peoria Ills., Nov 25, 1859" cds, red "N.York, Br. Pkt. 'Paid 7' Nov 20" credit exchange cds, carried by Cunard Line Canada from Boston Nov. 30th to Queenstown arriving Dec. 12th, red "Aachen, Franco, 13/12" framed transit, blue ms. "2/" kr local postage due rating, indistinct arrival backstamp; small stamp faults from edge placement, minor cover mend bottom left, F.-V.F. and rare 10¢ 1857 type II, III, V combination use, with 1975 P.F. certificate.

Addresses entirely in German script would not have been comprehensible to an English speaker, so bilingual writers often added "Germany" in English cursive, as on the top cover.

'7 Paid' Jan 22" credit exchange cds, carried by Cunard Line America from Boston Jan. 23rd to Queenstown arriving Feb. 4th, red "Aachen, Franco 6/2" framed handstamp, Baden (2.8) and blue ms. "2" kr due rating; barely reduced at right, some slight wear, Very Fine, ex-Grunin, Wagshal, with photocopy of 1988 P.F. certificate.

A 1857 ISSUE COMBINATION TO GERMANY PREPAYING THE DOUBLE THE 30¢ PRUSSIAN CLOSED MAIL RATE PLUS 1¢ CARRIER FEE.

The 1¢ stamp prepaid the carrier fee to the post office that was in effect from mid-1861 to June 30, 1863. The Baden post office assessed a delivery charge of 2kr, which was unusual for prepaid mail.
