Knutsford. 1904 Picture postcard posted within Knutsford, a KEVII ½d tied by the oval Advance Posting cancel, code "K.U.". The four corners of the card clipped, otherwise fine. Neither Kidd or Campbell record the scheme in operation at Knutsford in 1904, although it is recorded in 1903 and 1906-09; this undoubtedly genuine card proves it was operating this year, and it seems likely it also operated in 1905. Only 725 items posted at Knutsford in 1903, a similar number likely to have been posted in 1904. A rare unlisted cancel, one of two examples now recorded. Photo on Page 26. (Image1)

Leicester. 1904 Cover posted within Leicester franked KEVII ½d tied by oval Advance Posting cancel code "L.E.", in black ink but with a reddish tinge, probably a result of using both colours for the cancel with some mixing of the inks resulting from this. Fine and unusual, 14,605 items posted in 1904.

Leicester. 1908 Picture Postcard posted within Leicester with a KEVII ½d tied "X / MAS" cancel, very fine. 50,998 Items posted in 1908.

Liverpool. 1906-09 Covers (3) and picture postcards (4), one cover franked 1d, the others all franked ½d, all with "X / MAS" cancels for 1906 (2), 1907 (2), 1908 (2) or 1909, the last on a mechanical type card which reveals differing greetings within windows when a tab is pulled. All very fine. (7).

Liverpool. 1908 Printed bundle label on red paper "CHRISTMAS / Advance Posted Letters / FOR / (Batley)" with a fine Liverpool "X / MAS" handstamp, unusual and scarce. Photo on Page 28. (Image1)

Manchester. 1903-09 Picture Postcards (11) and a cover all franked ½d, with oval Advance Posting cancels code "M.R." for 1903 (2), 1904 (2), 1905 (3), circular "X / MAS" cancel for 1906, or "X / MAS" machine cancels for 1907, 1908 or 1909 (2), all fine. (12).

Manchester. 1905 Picture Postcards franked KEVII ½d, both cancelled by oval rubber type "MANCHESTER / ADVANCE POSTED / CHRISTMAS 1905" in black or violet, the violet cancel with "Christmas" largely omitted but otherwise fine, the other card with one complete and two partial strikes in black. Manchester. 1908 Picture Postcard to Penzance, the "X / MAS" machine applied at an angle, virtually missing the KEVII ½d stamp which was therefore cancelled by the "X / MAS" handstamp. An unusual combination of marks.
