(11.1) adjacent, showing on reverse framed "Forwarded/Rabaud Brothers & Co./Marseilles" h.s. in blue, so most probably privately carried to Marseille where put into the French Post, with "Hong Kong/C" arrival c.d.s. in blue adjacent, while a commercial letter, writer reflects on the American Civil War that "will eventually end in the total destruction of the South", filing crease at top just crosses the 20c. adhesive and the 40c. has small corner defect, fine tricolour franking and an highly unusual mode of transmission of mail from U.S.A. to Hong Kong.
