** INVERTED SURCHARGE WITH FLATTENED 'S' 1935: A fine example of the rare inverted surcharge overprint with 'flattened first S' from position 37 of the unique pane of 50. (SG 70c, Scott #C19c) (Note; position 14 became position 37 when inverted, thus the stamp presented is unique with respect to the flattened 'S'.) Not noted by Gibbons or Scott. ** FULL PANE OF AIRMAIL OVERPRINTS -The first regular airmail stamps were printed by Thomas de la Rue and issued in 1931. However, six values were locally overprinted by McCorquodale & Co. in March/April 1935 to meet revised rates and shortages of some values. This complete pane shows varieties of: small ½ (positions 17, 27, 32, 41, 42 & 46), missing Arabic 'wow' (49), flattened first S (14), short fraction bar (13), and extra long fraction bar (24). The sheet is very delicate and has some edge and central line perforation separation & two marks that are resulting from gum having become stuck previously. Cross Reference : AIR STAMPS (Image)
