1937 Hotel Metropole (Hanoi) cover to "Wallie Shiers, Airlines of Australia, Mascot Aerodrome" at Sydney with airmail etiquette endorsed "Hanoi Singapore Port Darwin" for carriage by Air Orient, franked with Tower 5c x3 & Airmail 30c tied 'HANOI RPP/17-6/37/TONKIN' cds, taxed locally with small 'T' in inverted triangle cachet, '.../19.6.37/BANGKOK G.P.O.' transit b/s where it joined the Imperial Airways/Qantas trunk route to Australia and 'MASCOT/25JE37/NSW' arrival b/s, a couple of heavy folds & repaired tears. [Walter ('Wally') Henry Shiers served as engineer on Ross & Keith Smith's record-breaking flight from England to Australia in 1919, and was Airlines of Australia chief engineer from 1930-39]
