POSTAL HISTORY: three covers all bearing “Post Office Jebba” manuscript cancels: an exceptional example in red ink on cover to Bavaria, Germany dated 11 AU 1900, used three times to cancel a pair and a single 1900 1d QV issues and a pair of 1900 2½d QV issues. Lokoja oval cancels (14 AU 1900) also tying the stamps and applied on reverse, fine. Second on cover to Belgium with a 1900 2½d QV issue dated 28 MY 01, Plymouth Ship Letter cds applied on reverse (4 JY 1901), vertical fold not affecting the stamp. Finally a 1900 1d QV cancelled in scarcer purple ink, dated 1 JY 1901, addressed to England, Lokoja oval cancel on reverse (6 JY 1901), Mortlake receiver (1 AU 1901), vertical fold and torn back flap. A scarce group given the destinations and ink variety (Image)

POSTAL HISTORY: 1903 folded letter sheet with 1d KEVII issue cancelled with an Ibi manuscript cancel dated 22 MY 1903, also overstruck with an indistinct cds dated 29 MY 1903, addressed to St Lucia with a Castries receiver on reverse (21 JY 1903). The letter has historically interesting content mentioning "about two months ago Colonel Jackson (of the Royal Engineers) was stopping here on his way to Yala to demarcate the Anglo-German boundary" (this was to be the border with then German Cameroon. A fine cover which is exceptional on many levels (Image)

POSTAL HISTORY: Odeni manuscript cancel dated 21 NO 1901, used on 1900 1d QV issue on cover to England, back stamped with a Northern Nigeria cds (24 NO 1901) and a Manchester cds (18 DE 1901). a travelled envelope, roughly opened and with address partially highlighted. Odeni had no recorded post office at this time and it is thought that the cancel was used to stop the stamp being removed en route. Probably unique usage (Image)
