China, 1894, Empress Dowager 60th Birthday, 1ca-24ca complete, Master Die proofs, large format, set of 9, made by R.A. de Villard from his original drawings for the accepted designs on thin semi-transparent paper, barely perceptible traces of aging only really noticeable on the 24ca, otherwise Very Fine and exquisite examples of artwork for this evocative issue, only ten sets of the original proofs on thin paper were believed to have been produced, of which six sets had scored lines through the central design.
