'WAVE HILL/7OC34/N. T.' very fine arrival b/s on registered airmail cover from Derby WA, vertical fold. PO 13.10.1925; closed 7.12.1954. [Wave Hill is a pastoral station of some 13,500 square kilometers. In 1966, it was the site of the Wave Hill Walk-Off, a strike by 200 Aboriginal stockmen seeking better pay & conditions but also the return of the land to the Gurindji People. The strike lasted for 9 years & ended only when Lord Vestey of meatworks fame agreed to a small parcel of land being ceded to the local people. This was a key moment in the battle for Aboriginal Land Rights]
