1839 Folded letter written at Montreal 30 SP and addressed to Picton but only placed in the mails at KINGSTON 4 OC, rated ms ‘4½’ (d) for up to 60 miles, with fine strike of straight line STEAM BOAT (CS type I, larger size), most unusual and extremely rare with the straight line on a westward travelling letter, one of only two we know of, choice and very fine. 1845 Folded letter written at Port Sarnia 1 AU to Goderich, placed directly aboard the steamer while at Sarnia and received 2 AUG (next day) with postmaster’s notation ‘Way’ and rated ‘9’ (7d for postage plus 2d Captains gratuity), the first recorded letter carried by the steamer ‘Gore’ which ran between Windsor and Goderich, and the only known 1845 cover on this route (steamer ran for less than 4 months that year).
