1879 P2: 1¢ blue Postal card sent SHIP RATE from ’Halifax Sept 27 1879’ (message side date) and carried privately to Boston, where a SP 29 cds, circular ’2’ and large ’SHIP’ marking were applied (2¢ Ship Captain’s gratuity was paid by the Boston postmaster), use of the 1¢ postal card for delivery was allowed, so only the gratuity was charged to the recipient and a 2¢ US POSTAGE DUE (J2) was applied and tied by a Boston Carrier handstamp, toning and faults, but a UNIQUE SHIP POSTCARD RATE.
