Cat No:51

51: 1¢ orange, faulty when applied and cancelled by cork on partial NEWSPAPER WRAPPER with Parkhill (Toronto) return address advertising handstamp (front only, reinforced around edges), the franking should only have been ½¢ but owing to the shortage produced by philatelic speculation, ½¢ stamps were only available when purchased as part of a complete set, so the post office actually sold the 1¢ value to Publishing Companies for ½¢ for use on large city household delivery periodicals and newspapers between late June until early November, 1897, a VERY RARE 1¢ FRANKING.
