1832 Folded Trans-Atlantic letter from York 6 AU (light red despatch) to London, rated as a TRIPLE LETTER in North America with handstamp ‘PAID’ and manuscript ‘1/11’ and ‘25’ ( 3x 7d Cdn postage to border plus 2d ferriage fee and triple 25¢ postage from border to New York), with red LEWISTON 8 AUG exchange cds, but rated as a DOUBLE LETTER for Great Britain with manuscript ‘3/2’ (d stg due) on front (double the 8d ship letter plus 11d inland postage) and a cumulative rating of ‘5/10’ (includes double the Portsmouth ‘1/4’ rate) on back alongside a ‘LIVERPOOL SHIP LETTER’ straight line receiver and 11 SE London receiver, light file fold and hint of backflap edge toning, still fine and scarce.
