Cat No:1a

1851 1d dark red Heraldic Imperforate, with two complete stamps plus a bisected half, all tied to a small piece (folded between stamps) by two #1 oval grid cancels. The left stamp is fine, the middle one is very fine (showing part of next stamp at top) but has a small thin in the top margin, and the bisected copy is fine. Accompanied by a 2007 Greene Foundation certificate stating "no opinion on usage". An interesting piece, as 7½d was the proper rate for covers mailed to the UK from 1854 to 1860 and the Wilkinson collection, for example, had three covers franked in the same manner. (Image)
