1857, 4d scarlet-vermillon, good margins all around, brilliant fresh colour, unused. AN EXTREMELY FINE EXAMPLE OF THIS MAJOR NEWFOUNDLAND RARITY. A review of the famous Newfoundland sales of the past reveals that allmost all examples are without gum, including the ones from the following collections: Gilbert 2004, Dr Chan Chin Cheung 1995, Sidney Harris 1968-70, Wilkinson 1964, Hind, Foxbridge 1987, Dale Lichtenstein 1968, Carrey Fox 1968. We could only record two different with gum: Pratt 1986 and Burrus. The condition of our perfect single is outstanding as a large number of this rarity show some small faults.
