Collection of World War I Correspondence, with about 55 letters in a binder, all written by Basil Pickford (born 1900). The letters are dated 1915 to 1917, while he was still a teenager and show a progression of his movements during the War, with some letters written back on his behalf near the end when he was hospitalized in France. Some are addressed to Mother, some to Daddy and some to Margaret, some are written on fancy YMCA letterhead and over half still have their envelopes. A fascinating read. (Image)

Accompanied by an explanatory letter from the Postal Service saying that when the letter left North Bay by plane, one of the compartment doors opened and the bag "rolled out" in the vicinity of Cobalt. The back of the cover is postmarked with a purple ink North Bay Postal Service datestamp on OCT.1 and accompanied by a copy of a newspaper report on this search and rescue mission.
