3d red Beaver Imperforate on Laid Paper on Folded Letter, mailed in Toronto on AUG.6.1851 to Proton, this two page folded letter is franked with a very fine 3d Beaver on laid paper. The stamp has three large margins plus one well clear at right, just tied by a target cancel. The Letter has a file fold close to the stamp but does not appear to affect it. A lovely early Canadian franked cover, very fine. (Image)

A very fine early small Lady's cover, accompanied by a 1990 Greene Foundation certificate stating that "the stamp has a small nick at upper left corner". (Image)

6d slate violet Consort Imperforate on Laid Paper on Folded Cross-Border Cover, mailed from Montreal on JUN.21.1853 to New York City, franked with a 6d slate violet on laid paper, with large to huge margins, just touching outer frameline at lower right, cancelled with a target in black. The cover (no content) also has a CANADA in arc and a PAID (tying the stamp), both in red. The name of the addressee was cut out, still a lovely stamp used on a very fine cross border cover. Accompanied by a 1993 Peter Holcombe (Switzerland) certificate incorrectly identifying the stamp as a #5, also with his signature on the cover. (Image)

6d Consort Imperforate on Laid Paper on Folded Cross-Border Letter, mailed from Montreal on JUL.10.1852 to Kennedy in New York City, franked with a 6d slate violet Consort, with sheet margin at left, two other large margins and cut into at bottom, cancelled by a target cancel in black. The folded letter (with letter inside) also has a CANADA in arc and a PAID, both postmarks in red. The stamp has a very light (almost imperceptible) horizontal crease from the cover, still a very fine cover. Accompanied by a 1984 B.P.A. certificate incorrectly identifying the stamp as a later printing. (Image)

3d red Beaver Imperforate on Folded Cover, mailed on JUL.26.1854 (Steamboat Letter / Québec broken circle in red) to Kingston (JUL.28 receiver in red) through Montreal (JUL.27 transit in black). The stamp is cut into at lower left but well tied by a neat target in black. The cover (no contents) is accompanied by a 2017 Greene Foundation certificate and also has a lovely watermark from "Royston & Brown / London", very fine. (Image)

3d red Beaver Imperforate on Folded Cover, mailed from Hamilton (OCT.20.1858 free strike) to St Catherines (next day receiver in red on back). The cover (no letter inside) is franked with a 3d red Beaver imperforate with three large to huge margins (showing next stamp at top) and well clear at bottom with a small nick, tied by a lovely strike (one of the nicest we've seen) of the Hamilton 16 in circular grid. Very fine and fresh. (Image)

Franking is what appears to be a thin paper 3d red Beaver imperforate, with large to huge margins (small crease in left margin), tied by a target cancel to this small Lady's mourning cover with curved black backflap and black wax seal, small opening tear at right, still very fine. The cover is franked with a very fine 3d Beaver perforated, cancelled by a light pen cancel. Cote des Neiges village was founded in 1862 and annexed to Montreal in 1910. Two "First Cents" Issue Covers with Grid 16 Cancels from Hamilton, first is a large folded "Return of Marriages" for the year 1865, listing seven names and details of people who got married in that year (all aged between 21 and 28 for the men and 18 to 25 for the brides), franked with a 1c Queen Victoria, tied by a #16 in circular grid from Hamilton (no datestamp, with much separation in the folds). Also a cover from Hamilton (DEC.21.1860) to Niagara, franked with a 5c red Beaver tied by a #16 in numeral grid, very fine. (Image)
