The stamp rated RRR: unrecorded unused. Number 1 in Tony Presgrave's Census of five covers, & the only 'C.L.' cover with a Red Overprint. [The addressee, A Gadechens & Co, were Adelaide merchants]

BLACK OVERPRINT: 'C.L.' on V/Crown Perf 10 4d deep dull grey-purple, a few trimmed perfs at upper-left, tied by very fine GPO cds of MY31/73 to local OHMS cover with 'Crown Lands Office' imprint at L/L, writing-ink smudge & three vertical folds all well clear of the stamp, which is rated R. Number 3 in Anthony Presgrave's Census of five covers. The Northern Territory Place Names Register states that Cullen Bay, Larrakeyah may have been "named after the senior partner [of] Cullen & Wigley, who were based in Pine Creek during the mining period of the 1870s". Cullen River & Mount Wigley were definitely named after these men.
