1906 (July 3) registered cover to Massachusetts with ½d Post Office x3 & Thick 'POSTAGE' 9d rosy lake tied by largely legible 'PT DARWIN/S-A' squared-circle, reverse with transits of Sydney (JY21/06) & San Franisco (AUG/14/1906), terrific 'REGISTERED/AUG 20 1906/NEWTON STATION/NEWTON CENTER, MASS' datestamp on the face, forwarded to "New Hampshire with 'WILTON NH/AUSG/21/1906/REC'D' arrival backstamp, light vertical fold at left. The 9d is very scarce on cover, & is unpriced thus in the ACSC.

1881 (July) cover-size piece being the entire address label for a packet endorsed "parcel only/from/A Johns/ Palmerston" at upper-left, to England with Perkins Bacon Perf 11½-12½ 1/- red-brown tied by one of two light strikes of the 'PORT DARWIN/JY--/81/NT' cds, sans serif curved 'REGISTERED/No ("175")' handstamp, oval 'REGISTERED/25--81/LONDON' arrival datestamp in red on the face, minor blemishes & soiling. The rate was 8d for a packet weighing between 6 & 8oz, sent via the Long Sea Route or via San Francisco, plus 4d registration fee. A remarkable and early item from the Territory. Ex Don Pearce.

1873 cover to Lancashire "Via Brindisi" with De La Rue Perf 10 single & pair tied by three good to very fine strikes of the rare 'NORTHERN TERY/AP17/73/S.A' cds, 'SHIP- LETTER/PAID/JY28/73/LONDON' cds in red on the face & Manhester arrival backstamp of the same day, faults on the reverse & minor soiling. BPA Certificate (2023). One of the very best early covers from the Northern Territory. Sold at our auction of 15.5.2004 for $5600. [Darwin's literate population at this time was probably fewer than 100. Even 40 years later, the total white popluation was only 1100. Heaton Mersey was an industrial town that developed into an affluent suburb of Manchaster]
