MONEY LETTERS. 1822 Early PRE-MANUSCRIPT MONEY LETTER part cover, CORNWALL to YORK with CORNWALL straight-line h/s in black. Rated 1N10 cy in black, (double the 11d cy rate for 201 – 300 miles). No external ref to “Cash”, but double-rated as it contained enclosures. Docketed “Mr Bruce, Deputy Collector, Cornwall, enclosing the sum of six pounds and ten shillings currency to the Recr. Genl. Dated 1st Augt. 1822” and “Rec’d 7th August 1822”. File folds and torn at seal.

1848 Single rate MONEY LETTER cover, TORONTO U.C. AU 14 1848 double split circle in black. Endorsed “Money letter” in black m/s and M (Money) in black, rated 7 in black (single rate for 61 – 100 miles) to COBOURG U.C. AUG 16 1848 double split circle in red. From 5th January 1844 letters were charged by weight in ½ oz [14.2 g] increments. This cover weighs just 6g & with only a check enclosed, was correctly charged at single rate weight. Docketed with a calculation of contents converted to dollars & “R[eplied] 17 August 1848”. Letter is headed “Money letter”, “Canada Company Office, Toronto 14th Augt. 1848. File fold and cut at red seal of Canada Company.
