The John Wilks British East Africa: Use of Stamps of India in 1890: 1a. plum horizontal pair cancelled by exceptionally fine "C/JY 22/90" strikes of Mombasa c.d.s., somewhat toned, one thinned on reverse. Ex 'Shivani'. Sent during the period of temporary shortage of stamps after the purchase by dealers Whitfield King of the remaining stock of the first issue and almost certainly used on mail carried by the S.S.
