Cape of Good Hope, 1855, June, 4 d., deep blue, white paper, on envelope from Cape Town cancelled with triangular bared strike, taxed m/s with 8 d. for 1/2 oz., m/s endorsed PER THE FIRST SHIP, carried by the monthly contract run by the General Screw Company, sent to Commander Charles TALBOT, who was captain on the HMS ALGIER, arrived on the 17th July 1855, the envelope was sent to the forwarding naval agent in London WOODHEAD & Co/1 JAMES STREET/ADELPHI LONDON, no further transit marks, at this time the HMS ALGIER saw service at Malta, because she was part of the capture of Kerch and Yenikale during the Crimean War in May 1855, Commander TALBOT was once Chief of the British Fleet based at the Cape and became because of his deeds during the Crimean War 1862 Vice Admiral and 1864 Commander-in-Chief of the Nore, a very unusual and historical relevant entire, fresh and desirable, ex Sir Maxwell Joseph and John Levitt, VF-XF!
