#237a, 1915 First Peking Printing $2 Blue and black, Center Inverted, position 6 in the sheet of 50, a mint example featuring a luxuriant color and being brilliantly fresh, a bit centered to lower left and still within clear and large margins, this being the characteristic of the first horizontal row of the sheet, original gum, very lightly hinged, a few short perforations at left not detracting from this famous rarity, one of the 'Four Treasures of the Republic', a major gem of Chinese philately; 1964 Friedl Certificate and the stamp signed by Bloch, 2002 Philatelic Foundation certificate; (Chan 245a).So far only forty examples have been recorded, which includes two used, of which one on cover. Despite the variations in the positions of the perforations it is demonstrated that only one sheet of fifty was released. This stamp is from the top row, position 6, which is characteristically centered to the left, with this example joining the top margin imprint single which belonged in the Diercking, Paul Hock and "Ming" collections. China interesting assortment of mostly better items from the Ching Dynasty and Republic period arranged somewhat haphazardly in a stockbook, starts with Treaty Ports including eight Shanghai Large Dragons, useful Chinkiang and more, then a selection of fourteen mostly used 1885 and 1888 Small Dragons, some 1897 ICP issues including mint multiples, Coiling Dragons including mint multiples and overprints, 1912-40 commemorative issues including those overprinted for use in the provinces, several 1921 and 1929 air mail sets and a great deal more, occasional small faults however most are o.g., l.h., n.h. or used, fine-very fine; a careful viewing will be rewarded.
