1939 cover airmail to Australia from Shanghai "Poste Restante" (return address) franked with Sun Yat-sen 15c and 20c paid tied '31.8.1939/SHANGHAI' cds (day before outbreak of WWII), by ship to Hong Kong with 'VICTORIA/3SP/1939' transit then airmail by Imperial/Qantas service with Melbourne '12SEP/1939' b/s and early 'PASSED BY/CENSOR' cachet [no 'V'] in blue on face, couple of light folds not affecting stamps.
1943 stampless cover endorsed "PRISONER OF WAR POST" from England (return address) to a civilian internee "Mr DW Laycock, 32 Route de Boissezon Apt 7, Shanghai China, British Civilian, c/o The Japanese Red Cross, Tokyo" with 'KINGSTON ON THAMES/SURREY' cancel, censored with British 'EXAMINER 3362' label and red Japanese chop used at Haiphong Road Camp, however endorsed "X 8" in blue crayon for delivery to Yangchow C Camp, a few blemishes. [Enemy aliens living in mainland China remained free until 23.1.1943 when the Japanese announced plans to intern them; while DW Laycock was held at Haiphong Road, it appears that this item was delivered to his wife in Yangchow C. See David Tett Volume 4 'Captives in Cathay' p227 for a similar item]

From a liberated civilian internee within the Jewish Ghetto area.
1949red-band envelope from Zhongshan, Guangdong to Hong Kong paying $14,000 hyper-inflation rate franked with '$50' overprint on Revenues $300 Ship, Train & Plane green in complete sheets of 100 x2 plus part-sheet of 80 cancelled and affixed by the corners then wrapped around the cover, some adhesions & faults as to be expected. Remarkable survivor!

[Russian naval ships were in Chinese waters as part of the Russo-Japanese war, the major Battle of the Yellow Sea taking place on 10.10.1904]
