1883, Koban 2 Sen carmine tied "Yokohama 29.3.7" (March 7, 1896" to reverse of small size cover to Tokyo, on address side marked two-line vermilion "INSUFFICIENTLY PREPAID" resp. circular framed "DUE / 4", also native Yokohama and Tokyo fusoku (incomplete) markings. Exceeded basic weight. The roman-style international mail markings were applied as a courtesy towards foreigners.

1872 (Feb 19) Cover sent to Bürglen (Switzerland), paying the French paquebot single rate up to 10 grams with 'Empire Laureated' 80c in combination with well margined 'Bordeaux' 40c, both cancelled by "5118" lozenge in black with "YOKOHAMA/BAU FRANÇAIS" cds at left in blue, backstamped on arrival; an extremely rare usage -probably unique- of the 'Bordeaux' 40c in Japan, being unrecorded by Yvert on cover; (no 'Bordeaux' Issue covers were illustrated in the handbook dedicated to the Ryohei Ishikawa collection published in 1976); certs. Von der Weid (2000) and Briefmarkenprüfstelle Basel (2000).

Note: According to Jun Ichi Matsumoto, less than fifteen covers are recorded bearing any value of the 'Bordeaux' Issue, which was belatedly available in Yokohama, after mid-1871 (the 'Bordeaux' stamps were issued in France between 30.9.1870 and 1.1.1871).

Fukuoka, 1916, camp stationery envelope with error inscription "SERVIE DES PR SONNIER E GUERRE" pmkd. "Fukuoka 5.3.22" (March 22, 1916) to Würzburg/Germany. Kurume, 1916, incoming mail, german parcel post card (dispatch bulletin) used "HEISERSDORF 27.4.16" to Max Lahn in "Kurume, Baracke VI" with remark "does not contain any written communication". Routed via Switzerland, Italy ans Suez Channel, on reverse transit postmarks of Egypt "ALEXANDRIA 22.V.16" and "PORT TAUFIQ 23.V.16". - The first german parcel form inbound to a japanese POW camp we have seen.
