Invitation from Emperor to the Chrysanthemum Garden Party, with envelope mailing it back to the wife of Senator Ollie James of Kentucky, envelope is very rough but the invitation on thick cardboard is in excellent condition, Fine, a nice piece of historyrnSen. James (1871-1918) first won election to the United States House of Representatives from Kentucky's 1st district in 1902 , and was re-elected to the House four times, serving until 1913. He was the Chairman of the Democratic National Conventions of 1912 and 1916. In 1912 James decided to give up his House seat to seek election to the United States Senate. He won that election and was sworn in on March 4, 1913. He served as chairman of the Senate Committee on Patents and died during his term of office in Baltimore. (Image)

c.1944 Soldier's Cover from Kuril Islands, pre-printed illustrated field post card from Japanese soldier with endorsement "Hokupo Haken, Kin 11907 Butai" (Northern Expeditionary Army, 42nd Div.) and addressed to Niigata Japan, message includes "..This place is extremely cold, and there are Arctic foxes to be seen, but overall, Army life is not so bad", FinerrnThe Kurils island chain stretches north across the Pacific from the Japanese island of Hokkaido to the southern tip of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula. In 1855, Russia and Japan signed the Treaty of Shimoda, which gave Japan ownership of the four southern islands and Russia ownership of everything to the north. Japan seized and occupied the islands during WW II but Russia retook control of the islands at the end of the war. (Image)
