1907 exhibition: exhibition stamp 10 (-) red, tied violet bilingual "International Fancy Fair and Fête at Shanghai, May 1907" to ppc (woodcut: 'International Fancy Fair and Fête / Chang Su Ho's Gardens, Shanghai') addressed to Mrs. Carr of the "Irish Stall" (pavillon). A long event review in the North China Herald 1907.5.31 issue shows that Mrs. Cranford Carr headed the Irish booth.
- Staged May23/25, 1907 as a flood victims charity "International Fancy Fair and Fête at Shanghai" mobilized the international community of women in the Settlement (consuls and merchants wifes), including China, which sent 2 delegates into the board comittee: Zhuang Dehua, the wife of Shanghai’s first tycoon, Sheng Xuanhuai (1911 Minister of Communications), and Mrs. Mencarini of the Customs and Excise Departments staff of philatelic fame, with daughters. It was exclusively of and by women. As this was "first", there is a multitude of academic and non academic treatments in the internet, qv.
