Fengtai "Postage Paid" Unit stamp overprint "Ordinary" on $1000 red Revenue Ying Hwa printing, from the top left corner of the sheet, variety surcharge ("Ordinary") inverted and also most of the overprint double, which is particularly distinct in showing three bars at foot instead of the normal two, an unusual and remarkable combination of varieties, fine unused without gum as issued. According to William E. Jones, the 16 March issue of this set of four Provisional Unit stamps coincided with the replacement of the Gold Currency by the Silver Currency. When the Communists occupied Anhwei, "they used these stamps for a short time as 'JMP' currency but the stamps are not of Communist origin".

This issue was never authorised by the Directorate General of Posts and was only in use for a few days. It is known used between 31 May and 4 June 1949.

Dr. Chan Shiu-Hon reported having seen only two unused examples of the Amoy Post Office Silver Yuan 10 cents surcharge. There was an example in the Dr. Warren G. Kauder collection. According to Dr. Chan's records, there are seven covers known bearing this issue, as well as just over ten used off cover examples.

(formal type) on Gold Yuan $50 on $10,000 carmine vertical pair, cancelled by "Watlam" c.d.s., with the pair additionally tied by the "Yungning" dotted rim arrival d.s., the envelope (a little reduced at top) has crumpling and light creasing not affecting the stamps which are fine to very fine. The raising of the postal rate for an ordinary letter from 4 cents to 5 cents in June 1949 necessitated additional 1 cent stamps to make up the new rate with the existing supply of 4 cents stamps. As supplies of the 1 cent stamp quickly ran out, the above Provisional surcharge was produced.

Also included with the above lot is an example of the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Silver Yuan Chungking Hwa Nin printing 1c. grass green, crisply cancelled by "Ting Hai" dotted rim d.s. of 22 August 1949.
