China, 1938 (27 July) airmail/surface envelope from Chihkiang to Los Angeles (26.8) "By air-mail to Hongkong only" bearing Peking Martyr 10c. pair and Air 30c., cancelled by c.d.s., undeliverable and held for more than five weeks before being returned (4.10) to Chihkiang via Hong Kong, Canton and Shanghai, with appropriate transit and arrival on reverse including "Retour" h.s., "Returned Letter Office/Hong Kong" c.d.s. (17.1.39), and "Shanghai" (28.1.39) and "Canton" (17.2.39) return letter c.d.s., both in red, nearly nine months in transit, during which time Japanese forces conquered and occupied Canton.

Reforwarded on 21.2.36" framed h.s. in red, overstruck "28" in violet due to further delay, matching "Air Mail Service Postponed/Forwarded by Steamer to Avoid Delay" or "Air Mail Service Postponed/Forwarded by Steamer to Singapore for Onward Transmission by Air" framed h.s. in violet, and "Despatched 6.3.36" framed h.s., one corrected to "9" in green, fine and interesting usages.
