EARLY PRINTINGS WITH CLEAR IMPRESSIONS: 2a blue-violet SG 8 (F&V 8) on Stout Paper Setting 5 marginal irregular block of 18 [31-32/37-40/45-48/53-56/61-64] from the lower-right of the sheet with traces of the marginal lines at right & base, margins good to huge, unused, Cat £2160+ (US$900+), for singles. Superb. With 1999 letter from Wolfgang Hellrigl: "...the only blocks I know of are from the top and bottom corners of the left side...your block is probably (90%) from Setting 5 [and] the largest known multiple of this rare setting!!" In their book, Hellrigl & Vignola state at page 127 "...Multiples and marginal copies must be regarded as great rarities"

EARLY PRINTINGS WITH CLEAR IMPRESSIONS: 2a deep blue Error of Colour tete-beche pair F&V 8ba (Hellrigl & Vignola 9a), margins close to good, bold Character-in-Bars cancels of Ilam, F&V Cat US$1200++, for two singles but unpriced for a tete-beche pair (Hellrigl & Vignola US$3000). For some reason known only to themselves, the Error of Colour is unlisted in Gibbons but mentioned in a footnote. Absent from the collections of Wolfgang Hellrigl, Richard Frajola and Henry Pattiz. Hellrigl & Vignola state at page 127 "...The printings in blue are extremely rare. These are undoubtedly genuine errors of colour, since the deep blue shade of the contemporary 1 anna is matched in every respect". [The Error of Colour is found only in Setting 5 of 1886]

LATER PRINTINGS WITH SLIGHTLY BLURRED IMPRESSIONS: 1a dull blue SG 10 (F&V 7) Settings 8-11 marginal block of 12 [29-32/37-40/45-48] from the right of the sheet, margins large to huge, [37] with Diagonal Scratch at Lower-Left, [40] with Small Diagonal Scratch at Upper-Right & [48] with Vertical Crack at Upper-Right, the apparent ink-marks are fibres in the paper & the transient Halo Flaw on [38] is caused by a flaw in the paper, unused, Cat £266+ (US$480++). A technically interesting positional block. [SG 10/a comprises stamps from Settings 9-18]

Tete-beche pairs are much scarcer used than unused. In most cases, this is not reflected in the Gibbons prices.
