1930, South Africa, 1 d., black and carmine and 12c black/green/postage due/Zanzibar, cover from PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA with embosses logo of THE STANDARD BANK OF SOUTH AFRICA LIMITED on flap, underfranked with 1d, ship (at domestic rate, when the empire rate was 2d) to ZANZIBAR, tied by machine cancel date 10DEC 1930 with hexagonal T20 CENTIMES applied on despatch. The deficiency paid by 1926-30 12 c postage due (R2/2 on sheet) a superb example of exceptional colour, tied by very fine type D8 ZANZIBAR cds dated DE 23 30, (with matching arrival cds on reverse, ex Griffith-Jones (listed F71 on p. 567 of his book) and Sturton, a very rare and desirable cover, choice quality and most attractive showing the blue crayon number 129 at left relating to a register of unpaid mail kept at the GPO between Sept 1930 and Aug 1932 only, SUP! 1926, Indien, 25c balck/magenta, Incoming printed B. MOHANLALL cover from LUCKNOW, INDIA to ZANZIBAR, unpaid at source and showing on face MOHANLALGANJ/LUCKNOW despatch cds of 7 JUN 26 and T in circle tax mark with MOHANLALGANJ horseshoe DUE mark on reverse and type D9 ZANZIBAR arrival cds of JU 21 26, The deficiency (2as equal 40 gold centimes)paid n face by 1926-30 25c balck/magenta postage due (R1/2 on sheet) uncancelled as usual (until mid 1929), light cover creasing and the 25c due an uncharacteristic pale shade (not necessarily discoloured!), the EARLIEST recorded use of the 25c value being one of just ten known, of which four pre-1929 with stamp uncancelled, ex Griffith-Jones (census F2 on p 455 of his book), still fine and very rare, XF! (local rate was 6 c. since 1932), tied with type KD13 cds of ZANZIBAR 24 JA 34, and T in circle, double deficiency paid with 6 c blakc/yellow postage due with R7 cds REG. ZANZIBAR of the same day, cover opened roughly with repaired tear affecting one 1c., still a frine appearance and unusal franking, ex Griffith-Jones listed on p.489 of his book as census F.204, VF!
