1907 Composite essay for an unissued 2a stamp, a photographic vignette of Sultan Ali bin Hamoud with a separate photographic frame printed in blue, the country name handpainted in blue and Chinese white, also handpainted between the frame and vignette, the essay 20x24mm, on thick card endorsed "To be used for the anna stamps 4-8" and "Dupl.", dated "July 18th. 07", 89x113mm. This design was used for the issued 15c - 75c stamps; however the currency changed to cents and rupees and therefore no stamps were issued with values in annas. 1913 3c - 12c and 50c - 5r Overprinted "SPECIMEN", the 75c with upright watermark, all sent by the U.P.U to Gabon with a circular handstamp applied by the Gabon postal authorities, no gum, otherwise fine and unique. Also 1c, 3c and 6c with "SPECIMEN" overprints, additionally handstamped with red "COLONIAS", applied in Lisbon prior to distribution to one of the Portuguese Colonies, no gum, 6c fault at left. 1921 Essays in black pen for the English and Arabic value tablets for a proposed but unissued 18c stamp, on thick card and tracing paper. A narrow design essay drawn on tracing paper (58x58mm) endorsed "18 Cents Zanzibar" and dated "15th Nov. 21", affixed to thin card (87x73mm); the second wider design essay on thick card (89x114mm) endorsed "30th Nov. 1921, Zanzibar 122/21, 18 Cents", further signed and dated "approved, Charles V. Smith, 9.12.21". Additional 4c, 8c and 20c values were issued in 1922 but this proposed 18c value was not issued despite this value essay having been approved. A unique pair of essays. (2).
