1914 (Nov 4) Stampless Army Field Service postcard used by a P.O.W in transit, the reverse headed "Army Form A2042" (with wording similar to Burrows type 2.5 but simply with "POST CARD" printed on the front), sent to Trieste endorsed "Free Service of Prisoners of War". Violet circular "POST FREE / P.C. / PRISONERS OF WAR" with Fort Saint George c.d.s, Bombay and Austrian censors. An exceptional use of an army card by a P.O.W, this card not recorded by Burrows.

1914-15 India 1a Postal stationery postcards used by internees in transit, a 1914 (Dec 12) KEVII card written from Camp Wellington to Switzerland with message "tomorrow or Monday we are being sent to Ahmednagar"; KEVII and KGV cards to Germany both cancelled by circular "POST FREE / P.C / PRISONERS OF WAR", one written from Bombay, the other from Villupuram by a Protestant Missionary with the news "we will remain here a few months more as we are not amongst those of our Mission that are to be sent home on the 21st by the Golconda", all censored in Bombay. Very unusual. (3).

Ahmednagar. 1914 (Nov 30) Stampless printed P.O.W envelope to Rangoon, exceptionally registered with an Ahmednagar registration label applied. Also 1914 (Nov 3) receipt for a telegram sent to Germany, with Ahmednagar Camp c.d.s; 1915 O.H.M.S cover from the Prisoner of War Information Bureau in London to "The Officer Commanding Prisoners of War at Bombay", redirected to Ahmednagar (faults); and a 1915 form signed by the Commandant of the Camp. An unusual group, the only registered P.O.W cover seen from India. (4).

Ahmednagar. 1914-19 Printed Prisoner of War Postcards, the reverse with the usual five short messages, printed in English (11) or German (6), various varieties, four early cards from 1914 (Sep. 13 - Dec. 18) all with differing fancy lines printed under the "Prisoners of War, Post Card" heading on reverse, the first of these probably the earliest known use of these cards. Also a 1914 (Sep 18) plain card sent from the camp (severe faults but very early and unusual). Burrows 4.12 - 4.17 and varieties. (18).

Ahmednagar. 1914-18 Printed Prisoner of War envelopes, various types printed in red and black (8) or in red only with a large red triangle across the lower left corner (4), early Dec. 1914 types with "Passed by Commandant, Prisoners of War, Ahmednagar" in three lines at centre left or "Passed by Commandant" at centre left with the other two lines in lower corner, 1916 envelope without the "Passed by Commandant" wording, also British type envelope simply with "Prisoners of War" heading in black on shiny white paper. (13).

Ahmednagar. 1914-19 Covers and cards to P.O.Ws at Ahmednagar including Japan 1½s postal stationery card, Bavaria 10pf postal stationery card, postcard posted within India franked ½a, covers from Chile or USA (with incorrect 3A due mark) both with stamps removed by the censor, stampless items from Germany (6), Switzerland or Australia, three with scarce red "OPENED BY / CENSOR / P.W. AHMEDNAGAR" seals, four to the "Parole Camp". (13).

Ahmednagar Civil Camp. 1915-16 Postcard and cover to Germany both with printed heading "CIVIL DETENUS LETTER" or "CIVIL DETENUS POST CARD" and "Passed by Superintendent, Civil Camp, Ahmednagar", and a stampless cover to Bombay, the postcard and stampless cover both with violet boxed "PASSED CENSOR / JHG / Superintendent / Civil Camp, Ahmednagar", the printed cover with unframed "Passed by ..... Superintendent / Civil Concentration Camp". Fine and scarce. (3).

Belgaum. 1915-19 Covers and cards, four stampless items with "Colonel / Supt. Civil Camp, Belgaum" in violet (2) or black (2, handstamp worn), three with additional "Service of Prisoners of War" above, one also handstamped "PASSED CENSOR / BELGAUM / W.E.H", one unusual card to another P.O.W at Ahmednagar and forwarded to Maadi Camp in Egypt with Sidi Bishr P.O.W Camp censor cachet; cover from Bombay to Belgaum with violet "PASSED / CENSOR, BELGAUM" and red censor seals; and a card from the camp to England probably from a camp guard. (6).

Bellary. 1915 Stampless postcard and cover from the civilian internee camp (which closed by the end of 1916), sent within India endorsed "Prisoner of War Letter", with violet "CENSORED / W.N.H / SUPT., BELLARY" or "Passed Postal Censor". Fine and very scarce, very little mail recorded from this camp. (2).

Dagshai. 1916 Printed Ahmednagar Camp P.O.W postcard with the camp name changed to Dagshai in manuscript, handstamped fancy framed "PASSED CENSOR / G.E.R", and a stampless cover endorsed "Prisoners of War Letter Censorship Stamp, Passed by Commandant, Prisoners of War, Dagshai" with violet oval "STATION STAFF OFFICE / Dy. No. / Date / DAGSHAI", both sent by A. Fritz to Germany. Fine and very scarce, very little mail recorded from this Convalescent Camp. (2). Photo on Page 102. (Image1)

Katapahar. 1917 Stampless cover to Switzerland endorsed "Prisoner of War Service, no stamp required, Civil Detenus Letter" with violet boxed "Passed by / G. RYLE SMITH / Supervising Officer / KATAPAHAR", Bombay censor cachet and label, light backstamp. Very scarce, very few covers recorded from this camp, which held just 36 people in a census of March 1916.

Kodaikanal. 1915 Stampless cover to Germany endorsed "Free Service of Prisoners of War" with boxed "PASSED CENSOR / KODAIKANAL", Bombay censor and circular "POST FREE / P.C. / PRISONERS OF WAR", Kodaikanal backstamp. Very few items recorded from internees at Kodaikanal, believed to be the only recorded example of this censor cachet. Photo on Page 102. (Image1)

Ramandrug. 1918-19 Printed Ahmednagar Camp P.O.W postcard with the camp name altered to Ramandrug in manuscript, reverse handstamped "FROHE / WEIHNACHTEN & Neujahr", and a Prisoners of War envelope on white shiny paper, both with boxed dated "PASSED CENSOR" cachets of Ahmednagar with differing censor initials. Scarce, very little mail recorded from this Convalescent Camp. (2).

Sholapur. c.1918 Stampless cover to Holland with censor label on reverse, and a Prisoners of War envelope on white shiny paper to Germany, both with violet "Lieut. Colonel, / Supt. Civil Camp, / Sholapur" and a Bombay censor cachet, the plain cover with violet "Service of Prisoners of War", the P.O.W envelope with red boxed "Forwarded as a / Special Case". The P.O.W envelope with two file holes at left, otherwise fine and very scarce. Very few covers recorded from this camp, the "Special Case" cachet the only example recorded. (2). Photo on Page 102. Takdah. 1917 (Nov 27) Stampless cover to Ghum, headed "On Prisoner of War Service" with violet boxed "Passed by / Supervising Officer / TAKDAH" (signed), despatch and arrival backstamps. A little toning but rare, virtually no mail recorded from this camp.

Yercaud. 1918-19 Stampless postcards (2), one with "On Prisoners of War Service" printed heading, and a printed cover "Prisoners of War Letter, For Transmission Overseas from India, Prisoners of War, Yercaud" (5,000 - 8-1-18 imprint) sent to Germany, Sweden or the Red Cross in Switzerland, two with violet circular "PASSED BY CENSOR / YERCAUD" with or without a central crown, the other with circular Madras censor. Fine and scarce. (3).

Burma - Shwebo. 1918 (Oct 1) Stampless cover to Switzerland inscribed "On Prisoners of War Service. Postage Free", endorsed "Passed by Censor, N.N Smart, DC Shwebo, W.W.W" backstamped at Shwebo and St. Gallen, opened out, fine and rare. Shwebo used as a Convalescent Camp for civilians from Thayetmyo Camp, very few covers recorded. Photo on Page 102. (Image1)

Burma - Thayetmyo. 1917 Printed P.O.W envelopes to Bombay, one with "From Prisoners of War Camp, Thayetmyo / Burma, India" printed at the base with a printed circle for the censor cachet, with differing circular censor cachets in violet, "CENSORSHIP STAMP / Passed by / Commandant / Date 25 JAN 1917 / signature or initials / R.J.H / Camp THAYETMYO / BURMA" or "CENSORSHIP STAMP / Passed by / Commandant / 4 MAR 1918 / R.J.H / P. of W.
