Transport Ships. 1914-18 Covers and cards from Transports, most with unnumbered censors, various types include "A.I.F. / Passed by Censor No ...." (8), "PASSED BY CENSOR" (4), "CENSOR", "Passed by / Censor" (3), "PASSED", "A.I.F / Passed by Censor", "A.I.F / PASSED BY CENSOR", "A.I.F / Passed by Censor .....", crowned oval "PASSED BY / LIEUT. COLONEL / CHIEF CENSOR / THE CENSOR", etc., some of these types apparently unrecorded. One cover with Canal Zone 5c cancelled at Cristobal with enclosed letter on Y.M.C.A stationery, two with oval "T1d" and 1d due stamps, one with circular "A.I.F / POSTAGE FREE", datestamps include "A.I FORCES POSTAGE FREE / VIC" (3), Bombay + "PAQUEBOT", English Mail T.P.O, Cape Town (2), Base Office Aden, Port Taufiq, London, Fremantle, Melbourne, etc. A good group. Transport Ships - South Africa/Sierra Leone. 1916-19 Covers and cards comprising 1918 stampless card of Freetown with violet "A.I.F / Passed by Censor No. (60)" of S.S "Aeneas", 1916 cover with Australia 1d cancelled at Durban, stampless covers and cards with violet "A.I.F / Passed by Censor No....." (6, two with manuscript "34" of S.S "Persic" or "37" of S.S "Anchises") and cancels of Cape Town (5) or Durban, other stampless O.A.S cards with Cape Town cancels (3, two with "G. O'Halloran Wright, A.I.F" cachets), two on differing A.I.F Y.M.C.A envelopes. (11).

Transport Ships. 1915-16 Covers and cards with "A.I.F / Passed by Censor No ....." cachets, all with the Transport number added in manuscript, one cover from Transport 43 with Australia 1d cancelled in Colombo, the others all stampless, comprising numbers 24, 29, 34 (on postcard of New York), 35, 37, 40 (4, two on cards of the ship), 43, 50, 60, 67 (2, one on card of the ship), 68, 70, 75. Cancels include "A.I. FORCES POSTAGE FREE / VIC" c.d.s (2) and similar Melbourne machine, A.I.F Base P.O c.d.s of Alexandria (2), Fremantle, Port Taufiq, etc., also picture postcards of ships (7), two items on Y.M.C.A stationery. A good lot. (24).

1914 Stampless cover with "TRENTHAM RIFLE RGE / N.Z" c.d.s. (recorded Oct. 5 - Nov. 4) and violet boxed "N.Z MILITARY POST OFFICE / OCT 7 1914 / EXPEDITIONARY FORCE" (44x26mm), recorded used at Trentham for two weeks (Sep. 25 - Oct. 8) prior to its use on a troopship; and a stampless postcard of Hobart posted at sea by a member of the Army Postal Service staff with the same 44x26mm N.Z Military Post Office handstamp dated OCT 25 1914, and violet "15/62 Sergt. Reg Miller / A.P.S. N.Z.E.F". (2).

c.1916-18 Stampless postcards with circular "PASSED BY CENSOR / (crown) / No 6 N.Z" (2, postcards of Senegal, used on the "Devon"), or similar No 26 handstamp (used on the "Waitemata") with a "RECEIVED FROM H.M SHIP / NO CHARGE TO BE RAISED" handstamp applied in G.B. Also a card of the Transport Ship "Port Lyttleton", cards of the N.Z Military Hospital at Walton on Thames (8), and cards from N.Z soldiers in Egypt (4, including "MILITARY CAMP / HELIOPOLIS AERODROME" c.d.s and boxed "N.Z EXPEDITIONARY FORCE / No. ... FIELD AMBULANCE" cachet). (16).

Troopship Mail. 1914 (Nov. 14 - Dec. 4) Stampless postcards posted on troopships of the initial main force which arrived at Suez on Nov. 30th, all with violet boxed "N.Z. MILITARY POST OFFICE / EXPEDITIONARY FORCE" datestamps (42x25mm), one card depicting the "Limerick" and headed from the ship, two cards with violet "CENSOR / NEW ZEALAND", four cards with datestamps of Dec 2-4 written just after the troops arrival in Egypt but probably still applied on board ship, one to England with a red London Paid c.d.s. A few faults, all cancels fine. (8).

Troopship Mail. 1915-16 Stampless postcards (11) and a cover with boxed "N.Z MILITARY POST OFFICE / TROOPSHIP No...." datestamps in violet or blue, comprising No. 30 ("Maunganui"), 31 ("Tahiti"), 33 ("Navua"), 35 ("Willochra"), 36 ("Tofua"), 37 ("Maunganui"), 38 ("Tahiti"), 39 ("Tahiti"), 42 ("Ulimaroa"), 54 ("Willochra"), 56 ("Maunganui"), also another with the number off the card but believed to be No. 34 ("Warrimoo"), numbers 35 and 36 with unusual boxed "PASSED BY CENSOR" above a dotted line (47x32mm), 37, 38 and 39 with "PASSED BY MILITARY CENSOR" (65x3mm), 42 with similar censor cachet but 56x2mm, 54 and 56 with "CENSORED." (37x6mm). A fine and rare lot. (12).
