ALLAN LINE ADVERTISING ENV.: 1882 Havana advertising env. for the Allan Ship Lines sent to New York endorsed "Pr Steam Ship Knickerbocker" with a pair of Cuba 5c tied to env. with large purple oval "CORREOS/FEB 11 1882/HABANA" adjacent & 'dumbbell' shaped "NEW YORK/FEB/15/PAID/FULL" cds on reverse. Front of env. decorated with large "[Leve &]Alden/TOURS OFFICE/207/BROADWAY" and illustrated panel on rear depicting sailing & steam ships with the wording "LEVE & ALDEN'S AMERICAN TOURS/Including all Summer and Winter Resorts/and Points of Interest in America./GENERAL PASSENGER AGENTS/ALLAN LINE/TO AND FROM EUROPE". An exceptional item. Also 1883 env. posted to Bordeaux franked with a QV 2½d tied with a fine Glasgow "159" duplex and a Bordeaux receiving cds on reverse with a very fine vignette of "JAMES & ALEXANDER ALLAN/[ship]/70 GREAT CLYDE ST, GLASGOW" on the flap.
