Includes an Ashbrook typed note speculating that this envelope contained a Valentine from a soldier in "the Lines" around Richmond, who got the envelope from a local sutler, then had to delay before getting into Richmond to mail it.

Tied by "Charleston S.C., Feb 19" cds on small cover to Augusta Ga.; includes large (10x14") hand colored penny dreadful comic Valentine "Dry Good Dummy" by artist C.J. Howard with quite an unflattering verse; cover with small stain at lower right, Valentine had to be folded many times to fit into the small envelope and has multiple repaired splits, Fine, ex-Haas.
