Magenta manuscript postal marking on 1774 folded cover datelined "Mount Oswald Plantation" to London with rare "Charles/Town" two line postmark & two line "Inld & Pact/Postage" handstamp with manuscript "2N" (2/-) rate, flap with Franklin datestamp of "Oc 10" & Bishop datestamp of "5 DE" arrival, handled by post rider from St. Augustine, carried via British Packet from to Charles Town to Falmouth, interesting letter regarding the Sugar Cane crop, small, unnoticeable internal hole in front of cover towards bottom, not affecting any markings, Extremely Fine. Estimate  $7,500 - 10,000. In 1768, at the insistence of Governor Grant of Florida, a mail service was es tab lished between St. Augustine and Charleston S.C., though the volume of mail was likely only a few pieces at a time.The service was by postrider and ran via Savannah and Sunbury from St. Augustine in British East Florida to Charles Town, taking two weeks in each direction. Estimates of frequency of service range from once a month to twice a year. The service lasted about four or five years.One of only three known examples of the British Colonial Period in Florida bearing Postal Markings.
