San Francisco, Cal., July 2 (San Francisco), bold straight line postmark (Williams SAF-230) with magenta manuscript date and matching "40" rate marking on 1849 folded cover to New Jersey, manuscript notation "per Steamer Oregon", important California business letter which mentions pre-fabricated houses, Extremely Fine, one of the finest strikes of San Francisco first handstamp postmark, used on only three sailing dates of June 20, July 2 and August 1 of 1849, ex Jessup & Pearce. Estimate  $1,000 - 1,500. Sent on the P.M.S.C. - Oregon departing San Francisco on July 2nd and arriving in Panama on July 21st, then by U.S.M.S.C. - Falcon departing Chagres on July 28th and arriving in New York on August 17th. $0 (Image)
