Pike No. 9, fancy ornamental eagle framed handstamp on folded letter datelined "Pike No. 9 Ohio River March 25th 1851" addressed to New York City, sent with "Jas N. Burnes PM Free, Ringgold Mo." free frank on the Pike No. 9 bound for St. Louis, entered mails with red "Smithland Ky. Apr 1" cds and matching "Free" handstamp, put onto Route 5005 for Louisville and then onto Cincinnati for New York; light staining, Very Fine, Illustrated in Milgram on page 570.; with 2007 P.F. certificate. Milgram No. 1108  Estimate $2,000 - 3,000. THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THIS FANCY ORNAMENTED EAGLE HANDSTAMP. The "Pike No. 9" built in 1847 ran in competition with the U.S. Mail Line between Louisville and Cincinnati. $0 (Image)
