Pensacola. 5 folded letters from the Samuel Keep correspondence, who was awarded the Navy contract to construct the navy yard at Pensacola; 4 letters addressed to his brother in Boston, first letter of January 1826 handcarried by a recent discharged employee with content regarding employment of various tradesmen, others three letters of December 1826 (2) and February 1827 sent with "Pensacola" manuscript postmark and "25" rates (one paid), similar contents regarding affairs at the Navy Yard, the last letter regarding the loss of a ship bring in supplies…You did not mention a word about the insurance and if it was not insured I am almost ruined…I have nothing for my men to eat. Everything like provisions and greens are very high and very scarce in this place., last 1828 letter to Keep in Washington D.C. with red "Pensa., F., May 20" cds (type VI) and "25" rate, interesting content regarding news at the Naval Yard including the break up of two men bearing pistols and other yard gossip, Very Fine. Small circular postmark with manuscript Feb 8th date at center (type V) on 1827 folded letter to Boston, Mass., manuscript "25" rate; some splitting at folds reinforced at right, otherwise Very Fine, a very rare and unusual postmark, with only three examples recorded between January and February of 1827.
