Pensacola/Oct. 1. Clear two-line date stamp (type III) on 1821 folded letter to New York City, manuscript "Paid 25" rate, forwarded to Providence, R.I. with red "New-York, Nov 2" cds and initial rate crossed out and re-rated "18½", letter with important historic content during Gen. Andrew Jackson's short tenure as military governor of Florida…The discontent of the Spanish officers who have remained, towards the conduct of Gen'l. Jackson, has occasioned him to issue his proclamation ordering them out of the country in three days, - this has occasioned great commotion & how it will end God only knows - The Genl. leaves here in a few weeks for Tennessee, and I fear Col. Wilson, who will be acting Governor during his absence, will have a difficult task to curb the restless spirits inhabiting this country., Very Fine, one of three known usages of this rare postmark type used during the pre-territorial American Military Government Period. Estimate  $500 - 750. $0 (Image)
